Access Tactile Inventory Undergraduate Intern – Fall 2025The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Access Department is responsible for ensuring that people of all abilities feel welcome and can make direct connections with the Museum’s collection and exhibitions.The Department offers internships to college students who enjoy working with people with disabilities and are interested in learning more about the intersection of art and disability.The Access Tactile Inventory intern will play a crucial role within the Access department, documenting and cataloging the multisensory tools used on access tours. These tools, referred to as tactiles, are objects such as fabrics, sculptures, jewelry, and material samples, which provide options for multisensory engagement with art objects on the tour. The selected intern will continue the work of previous interns, documenting our collection of tactiles and uploading information about them onto a digital database. Creation of tactiles that relate to the museum's collection will also be encouraged. Additionally, the intern will support ongoing accessible programming within the Museum. The intern will report to the Assistant Director of Accessibility and work alongside and learn from experts in arts and disability. They will gain valuable professional skills, including communication with a variety of audiences, visitors, and organizations. The intern will also gain experience in photographing objects, creating object records, and website design within a museum setting. Art of Europe Undergraduate Curatorial Intern – Fall 2025The Art of Europe department of the Museum of Fine Arts houses one of the world’s preeminent collections of European art from the Middle Ages to the mid-twentieth century, including paintings, sculptures, furniture and decorative arts. Areas of particular distinction include Italian Renaissance relief sculpture, Dutch paintings in the age of Rembrandt, Impressionist paintings, and English silver.The department is seeking an undergraduate intern for the fall semester who wishes to gain a deeper understanding of this significant collection and the tasks involved in curatorial research and administration. The intern will work closely with the Department Coordinator for the Art of Europe, in consultation with the Department Chair. This internship provides hands-on experience in museum work.A focus of the internship will be research and the creation of departmental hard-copy files, as well as assisting with various projects throughout the department. 3D Imaging Preprogram Internship in Objects Conservation - Fall 2025 – Spring 2026The department of Conservation and Scientific Research is an integral part of the Museum’s stated purpose to hold its collections in trust for future generations. In-House and Traveling Exhibitions Intern - Fall 2025The Exhibitions Department of the MFA oversees the Museum’s exhibition and display program. Each year the MFA presents over 20 temporary, in-house and traveling exhibitions. The Exhibitions Department generates the annual exhibition budgets and the schedule for temporary exhibitions and rotations. MFA traveling exhibitions share the Museum’s deep collections and curatorial expertise with audiences around the globe. Ranging in subject from ancient to contemporary, MFA traveling exhibitions travel to partner institutions domestically and internationally. In the last decade alone, our traveling exhibitions have reached more than 15 million visitors worldwide, as many as visited the MFA in Boston in the same period. Essential functions:Observing and assisting with day-to-day operations of the Exhibitions program including: Understanding collaborations required to produce Exhibitions—internally, domestically and internationally between departments including Curatorial, Conservation, Collections, Registration, Rights & Licensing, External Relations, Development, Marketing, and Financial Learning Project Management and documentation skills—including use of The Museum System (TMS) and other digital platforms including Trello, Smartsheet and ExcelLearning process of reviewing incoming correspondence, interpreting requests, and coordinating with MFA staff to compile input Learning to coordinate and proof Brand-related materials produced by partner institutions—including collaboration with internal Rights & Licensing department Researching global happenings & new scholarship in the fieldAssisting with the preparation and installation of Exhibitions, including Martin Puryear: Nexus; Of Light and Air: Winslow Homer in Watercolor; and One Hundred Stitches, One Hundred Villages: The Beauty of Patchwork from Rural ChinaCompleting special projects as assigned*Prepare and offer a 3–5-minute final synoptic presentation of the internship on Fri, Dec 5, as part of the Museum Pathways & Practices professional development courseQualifications:Enrolled in an undergraduate program concurrent with the internship period, preferably in Museum Studies, Art History, or International Affairs.Completion of at least 12 college credit hours Strong interest and curiosity regarding Museums in the global marketplaceAbility to work in fast paced environment and demonstrated attention to detailAbility to perform tasks in professional manner and handle confidential information with care and discretionFacility with Microsoft Word, Excel, and database programs (training in use of the Museum’s database system (The Museum System) and Project Management system (Trello) will be provided)Ability to commit to work onsite 16-18 hours per week (within Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm parameters), from Sept 12 through Dec 12, 2025, including attendance at the Museum Pathways & Practices professional development course from 12:30-2:30pm on the following Fridays: Sept 19, Sept 26, Oct 3, Oct 10, Oct 17, Oct 24, Oct 31, Nov 7, Nov 14, Nov 21, and Dec 5.
