Overview

Are you passionate about climate change and looking for hands-on, community-based experience? The LEJ Climate Action Fellowship is now accepting applications for the 2025–2026 academic year!

In partnership with Literacy for Environmental Justice (LEJ), this fellowship offers students the opportunity to support environmental education, native plant restoration, and climate justice initiatives in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood. Fellows will earn a $10,000 stipend, commit approximately 15 hours per week, and enroll in a 1-unit seminar during Fall 2025.

We are offering two LEJ Partnership Fellowships, open to full-time undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in climate solutions, environmental justice, and community engagement.

Overview

LCA’s College Undergraduate Research Experience is pleased to announce the Marcus Undergraduate Research Fellowship, an opportunity for undergraduates working closely with a faculty member to develop, complete, and present a research or creative project.

It awards $3,000 to each student fellow and $1,000 to their faculty mentor to engage in student-initiated research and creative projects in 2025-2026. In addition to funding, recipients will participate in programming that supports their projects throughout the course of the fellowship. Research projects are broadly construed and students from all majors in the College of Liberal & Creative Arts from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply.

Overview

The 3rd annual Climate Action Fellowship is open to undergraduate and graduate students in all fields of study and is designed to enable a diverse group of SF State students to take action to address climate change from a wide variety of perspectives and to support the development of community and leadership among these and other SF State students focused on climate change. The program is part of the SF State Climate Justice Leaders Initiative.

Overview

The SFSU Science, Technology and Society (STS) Hub is pleased to announce the 2024 – 2025 STS Faculty Fellows Program. The program offers SFSU faculty who are working at the intersection of science and social justice the opportunity to join a community of engaged scholars for the academic year.

STS Hub fellows will develop and share scholarship, collaborate on potential research projects, mentor advanced graduate students and participate in shaping the future of the STS Hub. This year’s theme is “The Politics of Automation, Algorithms and Artificial Intelligence.”

Applications are welcomes from across the SFSU colleges from interdisciplinary faculty (tenure-track and lecturers) with active research projects that engage with this theme. Applications are also welcome from faculty working critically with data technologies to advance social justice goals.

Faculty with teaching or professional development interests related to the theme will be considered, as well as faculty working on other research topics and past STS Hub fellows. Priority will be given to applicants at the ranks of lecturer and assistant professor, but all are welcome to apply.

Fellows will receive a stipend of $1,000 to participate in the STS Hub. Hub members attend monthly sessions to discuss topics in STS and their fellowship projects.

Applications are due Friday, Sept. 27, at 11:59 p.m.

An exciting fellowship opportunity that will support 200 master’s students at $25,000, 180 undergraduate students at $11,000, and 41 community college transfer students at $7,500 Please share this email with anyone that you think would be of interest.

ARI was awarded a five-year, $9.5 million NIFA NEXTGEN grant, with 89% of the grant used to directly support students to engage in research and professional projects and professional development workshops.

All students will work on a research or professional project, attend professional development workshops, and have the opportunity to receive travel support to attend a professional meeting.

Now recruiting for the Summer and Fall 2024 cohort (see flyer below).

To qualify:

The student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Must be enrolled as a full-time student.
Must plan to pursue a food, agriculture, natural resource, or human science (FANH) career, or plan to attend graduate school in a FANH-related discipline.
Must have a faculty mentor.
Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.

In addition, as part of the ARI-NextGen program, we are recruiting four students for internships with the Environmental Defense Fund and the city of Los Angeles to work on climate resilient water systems program (EDF) and whole-city RO water reclamation (city of LA). Students working with EDF or LA City will receive the ARI-NextGen Fellowship and support for travel, room and board if needed.

To learn more about the ARI-NextGen opportunities, we are hosting a series of informational webinars via Zoom to inform students of the available opportunities for ARI-NEXTGEN student fellowships and professional fellowships working with the Environmental Defense Fund, and LA City. Our next informational webinar is this Thursday, 28 March 2024 from 12:00-1:00 PM. Registration is required.
